The Tim McGovern Fellowship Fund honors the memory of our colleague and friend Tim McGovern (1965–2006) by supporting graduate research and recognizing excellence in teaching. A gifted, multidisciplinary scholar, Tim made important contributions to 19th-century Spanish literature, Portuguese and Applied Linguistics, Mexican and Catalan literatures, and Gender and Queer Studies. He was an active member of UC Mexicanistas and Peninsularistas, and deeply dedicated to teaching.
The life of Harvey L. Sharrer (1940-2024), Professor Emeritus at UC Santa Barbara, was dedicated to education, academic research, and engagements with foreign cultures and literatures. His academic career at UC Santa Barbara spanned 43 years, beginning in 1968 through his retirement in 2011. The Professor Harvey Sharrer Memorial Fund will support future scholars in their research endeavors by providing travel grants.
The Center for Portuguese Studies is an essential vehicle of communication between the American and the Portuguese speaking worlds. It fosters and encourages fruitful and mutual understanding that is fundamental for the continuity of these links. The Center promotes groundbreaking research and supports graduate studies, as well as a journal dedicated to studies in literature, cultures, and interdisciplinarity between the Humanities and other fields.
