Bio

Aline de Almeida is a Ph.D. candidate in Hispanic Languages and Literatures in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UC Santa Barbara, with a concurrent emphasis in Feminist Studies. Aline studies the circulation of licentious Luso-Brazilian literature from the 17th century to the early 20th. Aline’s work employs documentary research to track licentious print materials, as well as licentious writers that were ignored by the Luso-Brazilian literary canon. She completed her M.A. in Literary Studies at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she developed the most complete work on the Portuguese writer Alfredo Gallis (1859-1910). At UCSB, she is a Teaching Associate of Portuguese and the Editor-in-Chief of Tinta Journal.
